Image file names

PHOTOV uses two image-name kinds so packs avoid collisions while keeping the in-camera identity. Type 1 (in-camera name): what the camera wrote, e.g. IMG_0001.jpg, DSCF1234.JPG; source rolls usually stay Type 1. Type 2 (PHOTOV name): created when PROFESSOR color-tag / multi-select pack merges several rolls into one delivery folder and basenames collide; format PV_{YYMMDDHHMM}[_{rollLeaf}]__{full Type 1 name}, e.g. PV_2610160830_roll02__IMG_0001.jpg. Everything after __ is the intact Type 1 name (with extension), so RAW pairing, description sidecars, covers, and camera-number stats still key off the in-camera name. With no collision, delivery keeps Type 1; re-packing the same day may append _2 to the folder name; files on disk are never overwritten.

When packing tagged or multi-selected shots across rolls, later same-name items become Type 2—expected, not corruption. In Finder or the list, read the camera name after __. See Work folders and Scan & recognition for folder habits; this page only defines the two name kinds.

Type 1 vs Type 2

Kind Meaning Example
Type 1 · In-camera nameName written by the camera; source rolls usually stay Type 1.IMG_0001.jpg
Type 2 · PHOTOV nameAuto-made on multi-roll pack collisions; full Type 1 after __.PV_2610160830_roll02__IMG_0001.jpg

Format: PV_{YYMMDDHHMM}[_{rollLeaf}]__{full Type 1 name}. No collision → Type 1.
